Slava Celebration of SNF Lodge 171 “Djurdjevdanski Uranak”
On Sunday, November 10, 2024, the Serbian National Federation (SNF) Lodge 171 “Djurdjevdanski Uranak” proudly celebrated its Slava, the annual observance honoring the lodge’s patron saint, the great martyr George.
The day commenced with a Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am, presided over by the parish priest, Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic, at St. George Church. After the liturgical service, parishioners gathered in the church halls for a joyful Slava celebration. The church choir members were present to sing during the memorial service for deceased members of SNF Lodge 171, adding a solemn and heartfelt touch to the occasion. This was followed by the traditional blessing of the Slava bread, a sacred act symbolizing unity and faith.
Following the blessing, attendees enjoyed a festive lunch lovingly prepared by the dedicated staff at St. George Church halls. The gathering provided the community with an opportunity for fellowship, reflection, and celebration.
This year’s Slava host was Lazo Golubovic, a dedicated student and active participant in the church school programs. His involvement highlighted the lodge’s commitment to fostering the younger generation within the Serbian Orthodox community.
Teddy Flores, president of SNF Lodge 171 “Djurdjevdanski Uranak,” addressed the assembly and discussed the lodge’s future. He expressed his gratitude for parishioners’ continuous support and stressed how the lodge’s efforts benefit the youth, mainly through annual sports events like basketball tournaments and golf outings.
The celebration of Slava at SNF Lodge 171 was a beautiful tribute to faith, tradition, and community. It brought together members and supporters to honor the legacy of Serbian Orthodox heritage.
