Clergy

Very Reverend Radovan Jakovljevic was born in 1974, in Loznica, Serbia. He finished elementary school in his birthplace, and in 1989 he enrolled in the St. Sava Theological Seminary in Belgrade, Serbia, where he studied until 1994. After completing all the Seminary courses in good academic standing, Father Radovan continued his studies at the Theological College in Belgrade, Serbia. In 1995, he moved to the United States of America.

From 1995 to 1999 he attended the St. Sava School of Theology in Libertyville, Illinois, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology degree.

After graduation and a consultation with His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher, he continued his studies at St. Vladimir’s Theological Seminary in Crestwood, New York.

In 1999, he enrolled in the Master of Arts program in Christian Education. Following the completion of his studies in 2001, he returned to Chicago where he was appointed the Director of the Department of Christian Education for the Serbian Orthodox Midwestern Metropolitanate (2001-2008).  

On Sunday, August 17, 2003, he was ordained a deacon at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Lansing, Illinois.

On the eve of Vidovdan, on Sunday, June 27, 2004, His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher ordained Father Deacon Radovan Jakovljevic to the holy priesthood during the Divine Liturgy at St. Lazarus Cathedral “Lazarica” in Detroit, Michigan.

From 2006 to 2008, Father Radovan served as a temporary administrator of St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Mission Parish in Nashville, Tennessee, and of the St. Archangel Michael Mission Parish in Huntsville, Alabama.

On November 1, 2008, he was appointed a priest of the Southern parish of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Chicago where he ministered until August 1st 2017.

Father Radovan is to a large extent involved in the field of Bioethics. In 2006, he finished the Certification Program in Bioethics through the National Catholic Bioethics Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2010, he received the Master of Bioethics degree from the Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL.

In 2012, His Grace Bishop Longin appointed father Radovan as the secretary of the Central Church Council for the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America. Father Radovan also serves as the treasurer of the Serbian Orthodox Clergy Brotherhood.

On August 15th 2017, he was appointed a priest at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana.

On May 5th, 2019, His grace Bishop Longin promoted father Radovan to the rank of protopresbyter (protojerej).

In December of 2021, His Grace Bishop Longin appointed father Radovan as the director of the Diocesan Department of Religious Education.

He is married to Milijana (nee Kuljanin) and together they have two children: Andrej and Anastasija.
