Sunday Fellowship Luncheons at Halls of St. George: Extending the Joy of the Divine Liturgy
Following the Divine Liturgy every Sunday, our parish gathers for a time of fellowship and shared meals at the Halls of St. George. These luncheons are more than just an opportunity to eat together; they are a continuation of the love and unity experienced in the Eucharistic celebration. As Orthodox Christians, we recognize that worship does not end when we leave the church, but continues in how we live, love, and serve one another.
The Significance of Sunday Fellowship
In the early Church, believers would gather after worship to break bread together, strengthening their bonds as one Christian family. This tradition continues in our parish as we unite in a spirit of agape—selfless love that mirrors Christ’s love for us. Through these gatherings, we deepen our relationships, welcome newcomers, and support one another in our daily struggles and joys.
Sharing a meal after the Divine Liturgy allows us to extend the sacred joy of the service into our daily lives. It reminds us that our faith is not just personal but communal. We are called to be a family in Christ, and what better way to nurture that sense of family than by sitting down together in fellowship?
As St. Paul reminds us in Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Sponsoring a Fellowship Luncheon
Families and parishioners are encouraged to sponsor a Sunday luncheon as an offering of thanksgiving, in memory of a loved one, or simply to give back to the church community. Sponsoring a luncheon is a beautiful way to participate in the parish life and contribute to the spirit of hospitality that defines our Orthodox faith.
If you or your family would like to sponsor a luncheon, please get in touch with the church office. Our team will help coordinate the details, ensuring your generosity provides a warm and welcoming meal for all who gather.
Agape: Living the Love of Christ
The Greek word agape refers to the highest form of love—selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. Christ calls us to love one another in this way, and our Sunday fellowship luncheons practically express this love. By sharing food, conversation, and time with one another, we strengthen the bonds of faith and community.
Let us continue to make our parish a place where Christ’s love is preached and lived. Whether by attending, sponsoring, or volunteering at a Sunday luncheon, each of us has a role in building up the Body of Christ. May our fellowship reflect the heavenly banquet to which we are all invited, and may we always extend the joy of the Divine Liturgy into every aspect of our lives.
Join us next Sunday at the Halls of St. George, and let us break bread together in love and unity!
