Children’s Summer Day Camp 2023

This year’s Summer Camp was held on June 8th and June 9th.  We had a great turnout and the children had a lot of fun!  We hope to have an even bigger turnout next year!

On our first day of camp, we headed to New Carlisle to visit the Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God.  There, we were taken into the Monastery where one of the Nuns shared her story!  The Monastery now keeps some animals on the grounds so the children got to play with the animals.  A few of the boys enjoyed a quick game of pickup basketball while the others were on the swing set.  Soon enough, it was time for lunch that was prepared by a few monastery volunteers.

Afterwards, we headed to the Washington Park Zoo in Michigan City where the children spent some time walking around and looking at the animals.  The girls headed up the observatory tower where they enjoyed the view of the water and the city.  Those steps were quite the climb!  The children found a petting zoo and headed over to feed the goats.  We ended the day by heading over to the gift shop and getting some Souvenirs!

On Day two of our Summer camp, we remained on our church grounds.  We started the day off by attending a short church service, where the children read the responses.  The service was followed by a little lesson from Father Radovan and the children were dismissed to go to their classes.  In their classes, the children watched a short video on made by Father Radovan.  This video was followed by a discussion and an arts and crafts activity.  All the children lined up, patiently, waiting to head up the stairs back to the church where Father Radovan was waiting to teach them their next lesson.  Father taught them about the icons and relics in the church and when quizzing the children on who could find the icon he was talking about, they all eagerly pointed it out.

As the children headed out of the church and towards the pavilion, they raced each other to see who could get there fastest.  Some headed to play soccer, others volleyball, and the rest were on the playground.  Prayer before lunch was held, led by Fr. Radovan.  The children had pizzas, subway sandwiches, and various snacks!  Youth group took an active role in camp, helping with the children whenever needed and they even taught kolo.  There was a friendly game of tug of war between the counselors and the younger children. Camp concluded with a picnic in the evening!
