Annual Vrbica Mini Retreat: Celebrating Lazarus Saturday
As we approach the holiest time of the year in the Orthodox Christian calendar, our St. George Serbian Orthodox Church is excited to announce the annual Vrbica mini-retreat for all the children in our parish. This cherished event, organized and sponsored by the Education Board, will occur on Lazarus Saturday, April 27, 2024.
From 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, our young parishioners will participate in various educational classes to enrich their understanding of the faith and foster creativity. The curriculum will include engaging religion classes, where they can deepen their knowledge of Orthodox Christian teachings, as well as sessions on music and arts and crafts, which will allow them to explore their talents and express their devotion in unique ways.
One of the highlights of the retreat will be the festal Vespers service at 4:00 PM, during which all the children will have the unique opportunity to join in a procession around the church, carrying palm branches and pussy willow branches. This symbolic act honors the solemn feast of the Entrance of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, setting the stage for the journey through Holy Week.
We encourage all children in our parish to participate in this educational retreat as we prepare our hearts and minds for the sacred season of Holy Week. It is a time for learning, reflection, and spiritual growth as we anticipate the joyous celebration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s Resurrection.
Join us on Lazarus Saturday as we come together as a community to nurture the faith of our youngest members and prepare them to experience the beauty and significance of the upcoming holy days.
In Christ’s love,
Education Board Members
